Electronics and Communication Engineering

Introduction

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) was established in 2006 with the vision of evolving into a Centre of Excellence in research and development in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering. The department is committed to nurturing students who are not only technically proficient but also mentally resilient and professionally competent. The mission of the department is to design innovative and effective instructional methodologies that facilitate conceptual understanding and foster scientific temper among students, while motivating them towards research in their areas of specialization. With a dedicated team of experienced and committed faculty members, the department strives to achieve excellence in both teaching and research. Furthermore, the department actively pursues collaborative research initiatives and strengthens industry and development linkages with leading organizations in India and abroad.

Profile

Electronics and Communication Engineering

The laboratory facilities were systematically developed and upgraded in accordance with the revised curriculum and evolving industry requirements. To promote advanced learning and research, the department introduced a postgraduate programme in VLSI Design. The department earned NAAC accreditation in recognition of its academic quality and institutional excellence. Permanent affiliation from Anna University was subsequently granted, reflecting the department’s consistent academic standards. The department was later recognized as an Anna University Research Centre, enabling research and doctoral activities. The undergraduate programme attained NBA accreditation, demonstrating compliance with outcome-based education practices, and was subsequently reaccredited by NBA, highlighting the department’s commitment to continuous quality improvement and adherence to accreditation benchmarks.

    • PEO-1: Be able to apply mathematics, science and Engineering fundamentals and advanced concepts for their successful careers in industries, higher studies and research.
    • PEO-2: Analyse, design and execute interdisciplinary projects by addressing the industrial and social needs.
    • PEO-3: Demonstrate and exhibit professional practice with ethical behaviour and engage in continuous learning for career growth.
Programme Outcomes (PO's)

After completion of the course, the B. E Electronics and Communication Engineering graduates will be able to

Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.

Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal and environmental considerations.

Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations and give and receive clear instructions.

Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

Programme Specific Outcomes (PSO's)

The students of Electronics and Communication Engineering will
• Possess knowledge and skills to work on analog and digital systems, adhoc and sensor networks, embedded and communication systems.
• Adapt to emerging technologies with required skills and to offer solutions to the novel problems and succeed in their career.
